Each week one registered participant
will set the start line marks approximately 150 yards to the south of Port O’Call Marina to create a starting line that
is approximately perpendicular to the first mark. Distance between the starting
line marks shall be approximately 200 feet. When set correctly, a boat should
be able to run the length of the line in about 15 – 20 seconds.
The race starting sequence shall
be controlled by a starter positioned at the easternmost end of the outer bulkhead boardwalk at Port O’Call Marina.
All races shall start using the
5 minute starting sequence prescribed by rule 26 in ISAF Rules of Racing 2009 – 2012.
The starter will use a clock or
watch synchronized to NIST time to make the Warning signal at 6:45 PM.
The starter may, at his her convenience,
notify competitors on VHF channel 71 that the warning signal is imminent.
NOTE: the starter will start the race, but will not record finish times.
It is the responsibility of each participant to synchronize their stop watch or timer with the starting signal given
by the starter, and then to record their stop watch or timer reading when finishing.
The elapsed time from start o finish must be reported to the scorer.

Retirement
from Race
Any boat that retires after
starting must notify the fleet on channel 71. Race participants are encouraged
to keep their VHF radios on and turned to channel 71. The race committee for
MUST keep their radios on and tuned to channel 71. Any boat that retires will
be scored DNF.
Time Limit
A boat that has started must
complete the race course within 1 hour and 45 minutes from the start signal. Any boat that has not finished within the
time limit will be scored DNF provided that the race has not been abandoned.
Time
Keeping
Each participant is responsible
for recording their elapsed time from start to finish. Start time is defined
as the time at which the starter makes the start signal. Finish time is the time
at which a boats bow crosses the finish line. Elapsed time, also know as “uncorrected
time” is defined as the difference between the finish and start times.
When using a correctly synchronized
timer or stop watch*, elapsed time is simply the value of the timer at the time the boat finishes.
* A correctly synchronized
timer begins counting up from zero (0) concurrent with the start signal or warning signal.
If synchronized to warning signal, you MUST subtract 5 minutes fro the timer value at the finish to compute elapsed
time.
Each participant is required
to report their uncorrected time to the scorer as soon as possible following the completion of the race. Scores should be reported in person following the race or by email.
Notification
of Cancellation of Race
The fleet caption will determine if a race is to be canceled due to unsafe sailing conditions. Whenever possible the decision to cancel a race will be made before 5:15 PM and posted on the fleet web page.
