Tigard High School Ski Racing is open to all interested students who ski.  We compete in the local Metro Ski Racing League.  All racers compete every weekend during the season.

  • Typical Race Weekend
    • Drive or Bus to Government Camp Friday after school
    • Race training at Mt. Hood Ski Bowl Friday night
    • Stay at Cascade Lodge
    • Race Saturday – typically 2 runs
       
  • Required Activities to participate
    • Tigard High Athletic form & physical on file with athletic office
    • Do not pay “Pay to Play” fee
    • Varsity Letter requirements
    • Safety video - all racers must view
       
  • Required Equipment
    • Helmet  - must have Hard cover over ears
    • Skis, boots & poles
    • All other racing gear is optional
       
  • Parental Involvement Opportunities
    • Gate-keeper at races (or course maintenance)

    • Fixed Costs (split amongst all racers) –  Metro League fees, coaches pass, race training equipment (poles, drill, etc.), chaperone lodging
      • Approximately $100 last year after Booster Club donation
    • Variable Costs – depends on how many races skier participates in:
      • Cascade Lodge - $17/night last year
      • Dinner Fri, Breakfast & Lunch Sat. $23
      • 7 weekends at $40 = $280
      • Race Day tickets Meadows and Willamette Pass - $30  last year
      • Fusion Pass (Timberline & Skibowl)  purchase by Nov. 16
      • 14 yr and under $299, 15 -22 yrs  $349

Do not pay the "PAY TO PLAY" fee for this sport.  Eligibility requirements are the same as all other Tigard High School Sports.  Check to make sure you all have to have "PROOF OF INSURANCE" and "UP TO DATE PHYSICALS" on file in the athletic office.  "Up to date" physicals are dated after May 1, 2008 for Freshman and Juniors.   Physicals must be certified on School Sport Pre-Participation Examination Form.  All racers must view the ski racing safety video.  All racers must have helmets with hard cover over the ears.  "Half" helmets will not be accepted.  Basic ski equipment is ok.  All other ski/race equipment is optional.

 

Dry Land Training: Week day training on your own.

Mountain Training: Friday nights.  Drive up to mountain and train at Ski Bowl.  Have gear and sleeping bags ready.

A typical race week is:

Friday night - Drive to Ski Bowl, Race Practice & Stay at Cascade Lodge in Government Camp

$22/night non-members

paid out of racer accounts.  No refund after commitment.

Saturday - Race & Return home
