| On August 2, 1990, Iraq invaded
the Country State of Kuwait. Shortly after this act of aggression, the United States
responded with the deployment of the 82nd Airborne Division to the
region. This was the start of Operation Desert Shield. Many
more US and Collation units would follow. When diplomacy
failed, there was the need to move from a defensive posture to one
of offense. Only one more US division was needed for that to
happen - the 3rd Armored Division, from Frankfurt, Germany.
