These links are to organizations which are of interest that are located
in Winnipeg or Manitoba. In summer 1995, there were 3, and only one of
those was a WWW page. Now, there are lots more and, I am sure, more on
the way :-)
- An Interview with Carol Shields
- Carol Shields, author of The Stone Diaries (among lots of other books) lives in Winnipeg and recently won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction.
- Aboriginal Web Links
- These are links to various Aboriginal resources, especially (but not exclusively) Canadian ones.
- Community Action on Poverty Coalition - CAP
- CAP is a pro-active anti-poverty coalition. Frustrated over the increase insocial injustice in our city, province and country, CAP is attempting to find ways to collectively speak out and address concerns with poverty and economic injutice.
- Klinic Community Health Centre
- Klinic is a community health centre designed to provide support where the community needs it most. Different programs emphasize different needs. In addition to general medical servic es, there are services for people in crisis, for sexual assault victims and other victims of violence, for the elderly, and others. There are in-person counselling services, public education programs, and a wide variety of training and volunteer opportunities.
- Manitoba Association of Women's Shelters Inc.
- A listing of shelters available in Manitoba
- The Original Women's Network
- A resource centre for Aboriginal women. They offer educational and informative materials on Aboriginal women and their issues.
- UN Platform for Action Committe (MB)
- An association dedicated to seeking equality for women through the implementation of the Platform for Action, the document agreed to by Canada at the UN Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, China.
- Winnipeg Gay Lesbian Bisexual Youth Group
- An organization that is run for, and by youth aged 25 and under who identify themselves as gay, lesbian or bisexual. The Youth Group guarantees a safe place for all youth who are in the process of accepting their bi/homosexuality.
- Winnipeg Harvest
- Winnipeg Harvest is a community based food bank dedicated to distributing surplus food to those in need.
- Planned Parenthood Manitoba
- The local chapter of Planned Parenthood, the world's largest and oldest family planning organization. They offer training and information for individuals and community groups, as well as run the Facts of Life Line.
- Woman to Woman Counselling
- Woman to Woman Counselling. Counselling, Workshops, Seminars and Consulting from a Woman-Centred approach. Specializing in Self-Esteem, Assertiveness Skills, Anger Management, Emotional Abuse, and more. Check out our website for articles, links and service information.
- Women Healing for Change
- A cross-cultural diverse and expanding circle of Manitoba women coming together to create environments of learning and healing for all women.
