Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Custom Quilts

How long does it take to have a quilt made?  Each quilt is custom designed and made for your recipient.  Average turn around time is 8 weeks, but the wait can be longer during the busy graduation and holiday seasons, so order early.

I want to do something really unique, but I don't have any specific ideas - how do I start?  Browse through the Quilt Gallery and review the ways to personalize your quilt on the Home Page.  Think about your recipient and their interests, favorite colors, and what makes them unique.  Think about the significant people in their lives and their level of creativity - is a signature enough, or would they like to personalize a fabric square?  Think about the use - is this a wallhanging, throw, or bed-sized?  Jot down your ideas and email me or give me a call.

How do I prepare my t-shirts for a T-shirt quilt?  Wash them and remove any stains.  Iron them, being careful not to melt anything on the shirt.  Iron from the inside, using a medium to low heat and a pressing cloth.  Do NOT cut them up.

Can I choose colors to match my decor?  Yes.  You can send me samples of colors and I can send you fabric samples to make sure the colors will work.

What is your return policy?  I will repair any quilt in the unlikely event it needs repair if it is postmarked within 7 days of receipt, properly packaged and in good condition, and insured while in transit.  I do not accept returns for cash.

How can I order a quilt?  Use the order form to get the process started.  I will then email or call to discuss what you have in mind.  We will agree on a design,  colors and price, and complete a final order form.  I start on your quilt when I have received payment.  Quilts are shipped after payment has cleared the bank.

Long-Arm Machine Rental

Where are you located?  North Bowie, conveniently located near Hwy 564 and Hwy 197.  See map and hours on Rental page.

What do I need to bring with me to class?  Just yourself!  I provide all the materials.

How long does it take to learn?  You will be pleasantly surprised - most people can do simple meandering patterns after their Basic Course and 1st practice quilt (from your class).  My guild has lots of charity quilts that you can practice on, and then the guild donates them.

I'm not creative - can I do this?  Yes!  Simple meandering patterns are fun and easy to learn.  In addition, there are pantograph patterns that are easy to use - you simply follow the pattern with the laser light attached to the machine.  I have many patterns to choose from.

What's a Stitch Regulator?  The stitch regulator enables you to have perfectly even stitches.  It controls the speed of the machine for you so that if you speed up, it speeds up; and when you slow down, it slows down; resulting in evenly spaced stitches.

Do you have insurance and a business license?  Yes I do!  This also means that I have to charge sales tax.
