Spring Series 2001 Chess Tournaments

Scholastic chessplayers of all abilities from 5th* to 12th grades are invited to attend either or both of the 2001 Spring Series of chess tournaments. The final Spring tourney will be at Burlington-Edison High School on Monday evening, May 14.
Registration for the event is between 5:20 and 5:45pm. Players will be placed in several separate divisions based on their level of experience. The entry fee is $3 (to cover scoresheets, rating fees and awards). Medals will be awarded for first in each division.
The tourneys are directed by Randy Walther and sponsored by the Northwest Chess League. Unrated players who complete a tournament will gain a state level rating, or handicap, as awarded by the Washington High School Chess Assocation.
*Note: Players younger than 5th grade may play if they know how to record their moves and don't mind stiff competition!

Entry fee $3
Format:
Eight player sections, three rounds each ("Octagonals")
Players seeded by rating; if unrated, then by grade
Open to all 5th* through 12th graders
Medal awards for 1st in each Octagonal
Top eight rated players section: Game/ 40 minute time control
Round 1 - 5:50 pm
Round 2 - 7:10 pm
Round 3 - 8:30 pm
All other sections: Game/ 30 minute time control
Round 1 - 6:00 pm
Round 2 - 7:05 pm
Round 3 - 8:10 pm
USCF and WHSCA tournament rules are in effect! Which means, if you touch a piece, you must move it.
And both players must record their moves (until one player has five minutes or less
remaining on their clock.)
