Learn to Play Chess
To enjoy chess, you just need to know three things: If you set your printer margins to 0.7 inches, you can print out the Rules of Chess, and they'll all fit on one page. For a well done online tutorial, you can visit the ChessKIDS Academy. The presentation is aimed for younger kids, but don't let that fool you -- the content is excellent. The Chess Magnet School Toolbox will also walk you through the rules in a clear, straightforward fashion. Or if you prefer television, visit How To Play Chess and watch the online videos.
Okay, Let's PlayNow, to practice moving the pieces, there's two places Coach recommends. You can practice against Little Chess Partner (part of ChessKIDS Academy), and can choose to let the computer start off with all of its pieces, or just some of them. Also, the Chess Magnet School Toolbox lets you not only play against the computer, but you can practice your basic checkmates too. (Both sites use Java -- wait for it to load.)
