Cascade Middle School and Samish Elementary Chess Clubs are jointly hosting
a chess tournament for K-8 Chess Players from the Whatcom-Skagit-Snohomish
area schools and home schools. The event will be held at: Cascade Middle
School Cafeteria, Saturday, November 16, 2002.
Directions to Cascade Middle School in Sedro-Woolley:
From north or
southbound on Interstate 5 take the Cook Road Exit # 232. Drive eastbound
approximately five miles until Cook Road ends at a stop light at the Hwy 20
junction. Get in the left turn lane at the stoplight and turning eastbound
onto Hwy 20 for about a mile when you will come to another stoplight at
Township Street (it is also the northbound junction for Hwy 9). There
you'll see an AM/PM Arco station on your immediate left. At the traffic
light get in the left turn lane. You will see the entrance to the Cascade
Middle School parking lot within 200 feet of the intersection. The cafeteria
is located on the south end of the school.
This tournament is 100% advance entry only. Mail or e-mail all entries to
Randy Walther (see addresses below). Entries must be received by 6:00 p.m.
Friday, November 15, 2002.
NOTE: Even if you think you only possibly might play in it, then send in
your entry. Do not send money! Pay only at the door. If you don't show up
by the end of check-in (9:15 a.m.) you'll be automatically dropped from the
tournament. Please don't be late!
Entry Fee: $6.00. Pay only at the Door!
Two Sections: K - 5th Grade Section & 6th- 8th Grade Section. Both will be four round
WSRS rated Swiss paired tournament sections seeded by WSRS ratings. Time
control: Game/40 minutes. Recording your moves is optional for the K-5 Section and
required for the 6-8 Grades Section. (Don't know how? Learn here!)
Check-in: 8:45 to 9:15 am.
Schedule:
Round 1 9:30 a.m.
Round 2 11:00 a.m.
Round 3 12:45 p.m.
Round 4 2:30 p.m.
Prizes:
K - 5th Grade Section: 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th Place Trophies.
6th- 8th Grade Section: 1st, 2nd & 3rd Place Trophies.
Plus Gold and Silver Medals for each grade level.
