Renovation and Kumbhabhishekam of Rajagopuram

Dear Devotees,

 

Devotees of Kalakad village in Thirunelveli dist of Tamilnadu, have decided to renovate and perform Kumbhabhishekam of the Rajagopuram of Sri Gomathi Ambal sametha Sri Sathyavageeswarar temple.

 

Earlier Kumbhabhishekam of this large temple with the Rajagopuram of height 135’ was performed in the year 1935 and then in the year 2000. However due to paucity of funds, during both occasions, work on the Rajagopuram could not be undertaken.

 

Due to poor or practically  no maintenance of the Rajagopuram, the Lime sculptures on the external faces, the mural paintings on the inner walls, the timber flooring and decorative columns inside all the tiers have deteriorated very much, if left unattended, we may loose such a historic monument of devotion and art.

 

Public at Kalakad have jointly formed Bakthar Peravai to take up, supervise, renovate and perform Kumbhabhishekam. The Peravai has got approval from the HR&CE department, Government of Tamilnadu and formed the Thiruppani committee headed by Shri H. Vasanthakumar, MLA, and Shri R.Viswam Iyer.

 

The cost of the above works has been estimated to be Rs.43 lakhs that may climb to Rs.50 lakhs or more at the time of completion, because of the economic conditions and time required  for completion.

 

Being aware of the generosity of the devotees like you, the public of Kalakad are more than confident of the mobilizing the above sum.
