June 22, 2005 -- OT visit #3 Happy Summer!!! Katie recovered quickly after starting her antibiotics for her ear infection and pneumonia. She was able to get a few more days of camp in at her preschool before it ended. This past week, Katie finished ballet. She did very well at her end of session performance and will move up to the next level in the fall. Katie had her #3 OT appointment today, which included a CBC and physical. She did great!! All her blood counts were in normal ranges -- WBC 6.1, Hgb 12.0, Plt 258, ANC 2196. She has shown improvement in her balance and strength. Our goal over the next few months is to get her to eat healthier foods and move away from the "white" foods she craved while on treatment. I will contact a nutritionist in July if things don't improve over the next couple of weeks. Katie will continue her swimming lessons through the summer and she will start Camp Sparkle at Gilda's Club in mid-July, which runs for 6 weeks. The next two months she returns to the clinic are for just a CBC. The big news that Katie wants to share is that she has her first loose tooth!!! Plus, she has two big kid teeth coming in on the bottom! She's is very excited about the tooth fairy coming when her tooth falls out. The funny thing is that she thinks she's going to get $10-20 per tooth!!! Yikes! CONTINUED PRAYERS FOR ISABEL Katie's friend Isabel, who has relapsed ALL, is home now after spending several weeks in the hospital going through 'induction' again. Induction is the first part of the chemotherapy protocol in which several powerful chemotherapy drugs are given to kill as many cancer cells as possible. The good news is that ISABEL IS IN REMISSION!!! Please continue to pray for Isabel as she enters the second phase of her treatment called 'consolidation', which consists of new combinations of drugs to destroy any cancer cells that survived induction. Isabel still has a long battle ahead of her, and we pray that she continues to do well and wins this battle. Alex's Lemonade Stand Days were June 10-12. Congratulations to all the kids (and grownups) who worked so hard to raise money for pediatric cancer research. Here are just a few....
