August 16, 2005 -- OT visit #5
another great monthly CBC, prayers for Isabel, Light the Night, Heroes & Angels, Cooking for a Cause, Katie's online shops

Katie is now 6 months OT and a 5 month cancer survivor!!!

Katie is doing very well! She had her monthly CBC today. Her counts were in normal range again!! We celebrated the 6 month anniversary of Katie being OT this past weekend. It’s hard to believe 6 months have gone by already! In two weeks, she goes to the pediatrician for her school check-up and will get all the vaccines she missed while she was on treatment. At her next oncology visit in September, she’ll get a full physical, liver function test and full blood panel.

Katie recently lost her second tooth, which has joined her first tooth in her special tooth box. The tooth fairy can't have that one either!!! Katie finishes camp this week and swimming classes next week, then we have a bit of a break until she starts Kindergarten. She is really looking forward to riding the school bus, learning lots of things, and making new friends. She has given me a list of after-school activities she wants to do — piano lessons, karate, swimming, ballet and gymnastics. We’re hoping to narrow that list down to one activity since she’ll be at school for a full-day everyday.

Please continue your prayers for Katie and all children who battle cancer. We remain thankful for each and every day, and for the ever present support you have all shown for Katie and our family.

News & Events:

CONTINUED PRAYERS NEEDED FOR ISABEL
Please continue to pray for Katie's friend Isabel, who has recently relapsed with leukemia for the fourth time.

Isabel was rushed to the ER on Thursday evening and was admitted. She tested positive for a gram negative infection in her central line (broviac) and she is also neutropenic (unable to fight infection). Because they were unable to clear the infection in her broviac, she went into surgery on Sunday to have it removed. She also had platelet and hemoglobin transfusions over the weekend. Isabel got her last round of chemo. They will find out this Thursday how well it worked, and God willing, she will be able to get her bone marrow transplant. The date of the transplant has been moved to the August 27th because the donor is unable to give the week before. Hopefully this will not have an impact on the overall plans.

Isabel will probably be at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia for the long haul now. Along with your prayers for Isabel, her family is asking for e-cards to be sent to Isabel's room. http://www.chop.edu/ecards/

LIGHT THE NIGHT WALK

The Light The Night® Walk is The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's nationwide evening walk to raise awareness of blood cancers and funds for cures. This will be our third year participating in this event.

October 15, 2005 - Gwynedd-Mercy College, Gwynedd Valley, Montgomery County, PA. Team name: KATIE'S WISH.

You can register online to walk with us at http://www.lightthenight.org or you can register the night of the walk. All walkers who register before the night of the walk will get an illuminated balloon to carry the night of the walk, plus you can earn awesome incentives for funds raised!!

In 2004, we had 28 registered walkers on our team. We exceeded our goal of $5000 and raised $5589.22 in donations!! We have set our 2005 fundraising goal at $5000! We hope you will help us exceed that goal again this year.

Tender Branches has offered to help us with our Light the Night letter campaign again this year! The letter-stuffing/mailing will be on Thursday, September 1st at Karen’s. We are thrilled to have all the children and their parents working with us to raise awareness and funds for blood cancer research. Many, many thanks to you all!!!

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

Tender Branches is an interactive pre-school program/kindergarten enrichment program designed to teach children about appreciation, kindness, responsibility, respect, generosity and other virtues relevant to our world today.

Katie's Cooking! -- great news!!!

If any of you watch the Food Network, you'll be happy to know that Sandra Lee, host of Semi-Homemade and author of several cookbooks, has written the forward to Katie's cookbook, AND she is working on getting recipes from more Food Network chefs and other celebrities!! We are hoping to have all the recipes over the next day or two. We will update the list of participants on our web site by the end of the month.

The recipe count reached well over what we expected. Although we were faced with having to cut recipes in order to keep our production costs in our target range, every contributor has been included. And, the recipes we have in the book are FABULOUS!!! For more information on the cookbook, please click here.

Many thanks to all of our sponsors!!!
