Yes, flooding is bad, but New Orleans WAS spared. This could have been
100 times worse if the storm hit the city. Compounding all of that is New Orleans is one of the poorest of the major
cities. It is in the heart of the poorest section of the US, The Southern Mississippi River Valley. Generations of governmental
corruption has made that area the land that time forgot. Look at East St.Louis, Memphis, and New Orleans. All of them are
poor cities and have been poor for generations. When you have mass destruction hit an area where a large number of people
are dependant upon the government for their provisions then you have what is going on in New Orleans.
Yes, the governement
failed here but it was not because the damage from the storm. The governement failed here because it did not help to move
the people out of their welfare mentality and to a working and providing for themselves mentality. That is the grand failure
here, it is a tragedy that it took this massive amount of death and destruction to find out.
I then had to continue later on that afternoon:
The liberals are just giving the poor another handout, they do nothing
to REALLY improve the situation just to create another generation of those dependant upon the government. The black community
bought this hook line and sinker and voted for the democrats in overwhelming numbers The democrats have no desire in improving
the lives of the poor, they just want to keep power so the more the government does for the poor the more they poor have to
keep them in power.
Flash forward to New Orleans, the people there ARE dependant upon the governemt for nearly everything
then the government (local) did not come to their homes and take them out of town. The governemnt was to blame. The government
piled those people in the Superdome (which was rated to withstand a level 3 storm not a level 4/5)
When people have
never had the need to support themselves because they depend upon the government for nearly everything when the government
cannot provide for them you have the mess you have in LA.
