"I'M SORRY I KISSED YOU."  "I'M NOT."
“How long are you going to wait, Jack?” Kate asks him wearily as they sit by the fire they have made for the night (S. 2, ep. 19). Once again, she has followed him into the jungle on a wild goose chase, getting soaked in the rain and trapped with him in a net, and he still spurns her. She has tried to reach out to him, but …maybe he just wants her help, not her. “I’m going to wait until I get my voice back and then I’m going to yell some more,” he replies, referring to his attempts to get Michael back, with almost a laugh—at himself? That would be a nice change. Still, she’ll never be good enough for him. Her daddy was a wife-abusing no-good drunk—she can’t escape her genes, even though she wiped out their source. “I’m sorry I kissed you,” she admits, embarrassed about before. Jack looks thoughtfully at the fire for a moment and makes a decision; he turns towards her: “I’m not.” Kate looks at him, stunned—and their relationship is transformed—but they are interrupted by the sudden appearance of Michael, the person they were pursuing. Will Jack make that decision again: to trust Kate and admit he loves her, even though she might leave him for another, as did his wife? Can Kate forgive herself and realize she is worthy of love and other good things in life?
