ATWT's LESLI KAY (Molly) AND KEITH COULOURIS (ex-David)
TRADE IN THEIR SCRIPTS FOR DIAPERS Any random person walking past Keith Coulouris and Lesli Kay's (ex-David: Molly, As the World Turns) Brooklyn home is in range to hear an upbeat cheer coming from inside the dwelling: "J-A-C-K-S-O-N W-I-L-L-I-A-M... Jackson William! Yay!" This ode to their three-and-a-half-month-old son all but sums up Coulouris and Kay's feelings. The love theme continues with Jackson averaging at least five "I love you" coos per half-hour, while his parents reserve the same amount for themselves! Coulouris and Kay have finally achieved a much-deserved bliss, after a tumultuous year that centered around a difficult divorce (Kay's from ex-husband Mark Sterling). But it was worth it, since that same random person who overheard Jackson's cheer, will not to herself before moving on and note that a family lives here. |
| Update: How was the delivery? Lesli: At the point of having major contractions, I was only dilated one centimeter, so they broke my water and it was full of meconium - meaning Jackson pooped in there - which could be dangerous. Then, the baby's heart rate kept dropping. That's when they brought me in for the emergency C-section. Keith was great! He was rubbing my back with tennis balls and stuff. Update: How did you do? Update: How did you wind up picking a name? |
|
Update: Any nicknames?
Keith: We call him Action Jackson and J.W. Smiley.
Lesli: He's also ATWT's mascot because he is at the studio all the
time.
Update: Was it hard to adapt when you brought him home?
Lesli: No. From minute one, Keith wanted to do everything, from
bathing to changing Jackson.
Keith: It's a team effort. I'm just doing what dads are supposed to
do.
Lesli: But not all dads do it.
Update: Do you have a favorite thing to do with your son?
Lesli: (giggling) Playing "hide and find" Jackson; I go into
another room and count while Keith puts him under a blanket or sticking
out of a sheet.
Keith: I absolutely love when he falls asleep on my chest; I can feel his
breath and he's right under my nose, so I can smell him. I like reading to
him, too - he gets a kick out of it!
Lesli: The coolest thing, though, is that he is so needy of us and
trusting.
Keith: Plus, look at him. (peering over at Jackson) He's so damn
cute!
Update: You had a rough year. Jackson signifies a rebirth in
many ways...
Keith: I've always said for me to be happy, I need my health and the bill
paid. Those two things have happened. And I have Lesli.
Lesli: We have what I really didn't know was possible.
Update: What do you want to pass on to Jackson?
Lesli: Keith is so very talented! (Keith shakes his head) What are
you laughing at? He plays the guitar and sings. He does martial arts...
and juggles. I hope Jackson inherits his musical talents and physical
grace.
Update: What do you like to sing to the baby?
Keith: Everything from making poop to show tunes - and "Danny's Song" by
Loggins and Messina. What I'd like Jackson to get from Lesli is her
physicality and her desire to be a good person. Oh, and her ability to
focus on many things at once.
Lesli: Like breast feeding and talking on the phone!
Update: What about marriage?
Lesli: If Keith were to ask me to marry him, of course, I'd say yes.
But the commitment we have goes way beyond saying vows.
Keith: I'm not a religious person - I'm spiritual. What's going to be
different if we get married?
Lesli: (to Keith) I'd like to have the same last name as you and
my son. That's the only reason I think it would be important.
Keith: Marriage gives people a sense of security that I don't need.
I have it already.
Lesli: Marriage isn't all it's cracked up to be. Keith and I know
we are going to be together, and if we're not, then it's because we chose not to
be. We're going to shower Jackson with our love and teach him everything we can.
