CORBIN BERNSEN'S CARPOOL GUY
When
filming the movie Carpool Guy in producer Shaun Edwardes's home, a few
unforeseen road blocks were bound to occur: such as the phone ringing in the
middle of a dinner scene. Undeterred, professionals Lesli Kay (GH), Rick Hearst
(GH), Sean Kanan (BB), and Lauralee Bell (YR) kept the show on the road. What to
expect under Corbin Bernsen's (GH) direction?
Corbin steered the project to life through Public Media Works. "Shaun and I had this idea of this company where we could make movies with certain kinds of talent that had fan bases," he said about the dark comedy that features an all soap star cast. "We really wanted to get the fan base interactive in the process."
Such interactivity will eventually entail fans having the ability to make decisions from wardrobe to set decoration by voting on-line. In addition, there will be virtual dressing rooms where actors receive emails. In the meantime, Corbin shared, "This is the first project and quite frankly I'm just thrilled that it's working out great. The dream I had was stick different people from daytime -- talent that might be overlooked by other people -- together and here they are all sitting around a table from different shows and doing a different kind of thing. Hopefully the fans will dig it. That's our whole thing."
| Certainly enjoying
it was Y&R's Lauralee Bell despite a personal obstacle: laryngitis. "My son
woke us up at 3 or 4 in the morning and I went to say something to him and
nothing came out, so I thought 'oh my God' because these days are pretty
crucial in terms of permits and staying on schedule." Irregardless of the
set-back she managed to power through in the role of Hope, the wife of the
main character, Joel, with the help of some hot tea. The majority of the
cast either approached Corbin or was approached by him, however her
involvement began in a different way. "I was in Chicago on vacation and
Jeanne [Cooper (Kay)] left a message on my home machine saying Corbin wants
to talk to you about doing a movie. He said your part will literally take 6
to 8 days of your life and then I read the script and I love Corbin so it
was a no brainer."
It obviously pays to have connections and what better person than Jeanne, Corbin's mother who will also appear in the film. As of press time she hadn't done her scenes yet, but Corbin shared, "I can't wait to direct my mom -- that's the part that's going to be exciting." B&B's Sean Kanan, who plays an ad exec who rivals his close friend when the company's top position becomes available, had reasons of his own to be excited. "For me, the best thing about this is working with Rick," he said. "There's this whole story because Rick and I were these unemployed actors and working in a restaurant together -- we've known each other for 15 years -- and we used to say to each other 'We're going to work together. We're going to make it.' Next thing you know Rick comes on The Bold and the Beautiful and we had a great time. And now we're doing a film together, so it's great." |

 Leading
man Rick concurred, "To work with Sean again and the idea that we play two
buddies in the film and are actually buddies off the camera -- it was a walk
in the park."
Lesli Kay's excitement was of a different sort. "Craft service [laughs]. There's actually food," she responded when asked the difference between making a movie versus taping soaps. "It's just a different feeling. I did a lot of movies before I did soaps and I haven't done one in a while and it's really fun." Also participating in the film that doesn't yet have a release date are Tony Geary (GH), Kristoff St. John (YR), Patrika Darbo (Days) and Corbin himself, in addition to directing. As for being behind the camera, Corbin shared it's, "Next to Godliness. I'm just so thoroughly digging it. For me, it's just it." Ahhh... life in the fast lane -- wait... make that the diamond lane. |
