ELIGIBILITY - Swimmer must be a member of the Ken-Grill Swimming Pool. All swimmers must be able to swim one lap (25 meters) unassisted. To participate in swim meets swimmer must be able to complete the number of laps required for their age group. The coaches will determine whether a child is ready to swim on the competitive team or needs additional development and/or lessons for children in the 8&Under agegroup.
SAFETY - To ensure the safety of the swimmers, parents are not to attempt to talk with the coaches while they are on the pool deck. Please discuss any questions, ideas, or concerns with coaches after practice has concluded.
Warm-ups prior to a swim meet are required to ensure safety. Land warm-ups are required before getting in the water at swim practice. If swimmer is late to practice they should see a coach before entering the water.
It is a good idea for the swimmer to bring drinking water to practice to ensure proper hydration. The use of a sun hat for warm up time is advisable. On cool or rainy days swimmer should be prepared with warm clothing.
MEDICAL INFORMATION - Please list on the Medical Emergency Form any medical problems, such as allergies, asthma or medications, your child may be taking. Please inform a coach if there are any changes in your childs information throughout the swim season. Should an emergency arise and a parent/guardian is not available, we want to be able to obtain correct medical attention for your child immediately utilizing this information. PARENT VOLUNTEERS - Parental involvement is essential in order to have a successful swim season. We are asking that each family designate one parent volunteerfor at least one meet from the following list: Announcer, Stroke/Turn Judge (Level II Certification), Scorer, Timers (6), Place Judges (3), Runners, 8&U and 9-10 helpers to get kids to the starting blocks, Set-up/Clean-up crew. DUAL SWIM MEETS - A dual swim meet is when two teams compete against each other under the governance of the Berks County Swim Association (BCSA). Meets start at 6:00 pm. Please arrive for home meets at 4:30 and away meets ready to be in the water at 5:30pm. Directions to each pool will be provided on the bulletin board at the pool. the safety of swimmers, warm-ups prior to a swim meet are required by the coaching team.
Swimmers are divided into the following age groups:
8 and under
9&10
11 & 12
13 &14
Open (15 & above)
The sequence of events will be
Medley Relay (four swimmers - one for each stroke)
Butterfly
Freestyle
Backstroke
Breaststroke
Freestyle Relay (four swimmers - each one doing freestyle)
According to BCSA rules: the team with the most points at the end of the meet is the winner, each team is allowed to enter one relay team per age group and three swimmers per individual event per age group in competition, and a line-up is submitted prior to the start of each meet. The coaches will determine what events the swimmers enter.
