Author Kevin Krajick gives illustrated lectures at universities, museums and scientific meetings on The Secret Hunt for North American Diamonds. With rare and compelling historical slide images from across the continent and the contemporary far north, he shows how the vast new Ekati mine grew from 450 years of furtive diamond hunting across the United States and Canada. He discusses early European explorers starting with Jacques Cartier; diamond finds, frenzies and hoaxes of the 19th century; and how modern companies including the de Beers cartel are still combing the continent. Along the way, he examines the ultra-secret science of diamond hunting, and the cutthroat competition. He concludes with the ongoing multibillion-dollar strike on the tundra.
