Welcome to my website!
Here is a clearinghouse of information on Leslie Shafer and Charlie Williams' bridge teaching activities.
If you have any questions that you don't see addressed on this website, please let me know.
The best 10 years of my life started when I began to teach bridge full time, meeting all of you and making
so many new friends. What a blessing it is to be able to love your job. Not only is bridge a wonderful sport,
but we have found that for many students, it has enriched their own personal social contacts.
Our mission statement is to spread the love of bridge to everyone.
On this site, you will find a list of both current and upcoming classes in the Montgomery
County (Maryland) area. You will also find my classroom policies, humor, the best internet
bridge sites and so much more. I hope you enjoy what I have included here in the website for you.

Random Acts of Kindness
I believe in this campaign. It is being taught in schools all over the country with amazing results. I
also believe that bridge players have even more of an opportunity to show compassion and mercy to their fellow bridge players.
Walking to the pool one day with my 4 year old grandaughter, she informed me that she now knew what compassion and mercy meant.
She went on to tell me that "Compassion means to help someone ... and Mercy means to give someone a second chance."
I would like for all of us, to be on our best behavior at the bridge table. If anyone laments on their
lack of bridge skills, I favor responses to them such as "Oh, I did that same thing just yesterday" or "I would have done
the same thing."
I love the Random Acts of Kindness movement. I encourage you to join. Even the smallest ripple
of compassion can become a tidal wave of love and kindness. Here are a few quotes I found this morning on the subject.
Enjoy! Always -- Leslie
Want Charlie and Leslie's advice about a hand
you played recently at home with your friends?
Print out a hand record and fill it out completely (with filled in cards, auction, opening lead, etc.) and either send
to us via email or bring the print out to one of our classes. We are very interested in your problem hands (and we all have them).
