The total solar eclipse of Mar 29, 2006 was observed from Libya, Africa. The libyan desert is one of the most arid places on earth, which makes it perfect for observing the eclipse. The eclipse site was 60 miles south of Jalu where absolutely no facilities exist. Safari Tourism Services of Libya has done an amazing job of setting up a huge tent city for several thousand people with all the facilities and electricity. Also, the Libyan Government has done an excellent job of providing the security. There was a 24-hour free internet service and a coffee-shop; a non-alcoholic bar and several souvenir shops; a post-office and a tourist office; night time entertainment by the Ghadames tribal dancers and spectacular fire-works.
