Why Christian kitsch?

How ought we as people respond to God's grace and greatness as demonstrated in creation and salvation? I believe if we understand creation and salvation, the only proper response is Soli Deo Gloria (To God alone be the Glory). God deserves our best. We ought to give God the utmost in quality art to return glory to God as a response of what He has done for us.

The idea of a piece of Christian art that is cheap, poorly done, or in bad taste seems to violate my sensibilities. This type of material ought to insult all believers, but many seem to embrace this stuff. I find the Christian sub-culture embrace of mediocrity fascinating and in need of satirizing.
