Icardi Moscato d'Asti "La Rosa Selvatica"
'97--Light, fresh muscatty floral and
orange-blossom nose. Lightly sweet, with a light fizz. Nice round
coconut and peach flavors. A very nice, light (did you get that
impression yet?) dessert wine.
Masciarelli Montepulciano d'Abruzzo
'96--A very tasty wine from this
appellation. Leather and cherry aromas and flavors. Very lush, with a
good, long, complex finish.
Schloss Saarstein Riesling Trocken
Mosel-Saar-Ruwer QBA '97--Spritzy with
decent apple flavors and a good clean finish.
Valckenberg Riesling Worms Rheinhessen QBA
'96--Some VA on the nose. Grapefruit
and green apple flavors. A bit tart, even with 1.1% residual
Valckenberg Gewurztraminer Pfalz QBA
'97--Moderate varietal floral nose,
with nice peachy notes in the mouth. Slightly oily mouthfeel.
Slightly sweet. Fairly long finish.
Valckenberg Chardonnay Eiswein Rheinhessen
'96--The first Chardonnay Eiswein I've
ever seen from Germany. Nose is of candied pears and peaches. Very
sweet in the mouth with honeyed peach and pear flavors. Thick and
rich. Long sweet pear and honey finish with a floral note. Unusual
and very nice dessert wine.
For some wines from Hungary, see the Tokaji seminar notes.
