 Underride election

  Polling hours are from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Results:
Total Voters: 507 (13.39 percent of 3,786 registered voters)
Question One: Yes- 369; No - 128; Blanks - 10
Question Two: Yes - 253; No - 249; Blanks - 5
Since both questions passed, higher one prevails; Tax levy reduced by $1,032,724; no excess tax levy retained.
What the votes mean:
1. Against the Underride - Vote "No" on both questions. This will retain the entire override amount passed in June as excess capacity ($1.03 million unused but available).
2. Vote for the Underride with some excess capacity left in case it is necessary next year (but not used this year) reducing capacity by $770,000 and leaving $261,000 available for possible use next year: Vote "Yes" on Question One and "No" on Question Two. Selectmen explain that the town used $261,000 in so-called non-recurrent revenues (inother words, savings) to fund this year's budget. That money will not be available to spend next year. The projected deficit for next year is already over $300,000, according to officials.
3. Vote for the underride for the full unused capacity of $1.03 million: Vote "No" on Question One and"Yes" on Question Two;
      Also, if you vote "Yes" on both questions, it will be the same as voting "No" on the first question. If both pass, the one with the higher figure prevails (Question Two).
The excess capacity refers to tax capability that can be - but does not have to be - used, like having a credit line on a credit card that is higher than your current spending - just in case you need to buy something in an emergency.
