'Christian values' meddling

'Christian values' meddling

The unwelcome and unwarranted insertion of Sen. Rick Santorum's so-called "Christian values" into the personal and family matter between Terri Schiavo and her husband is unconscionable and morally reprehensible.

Mr. Santorum pontificates on the "sanctity of marriage" and how "government has to get out of people's lives" and yet feels compelled to have the government intervene in a matter between husband and wife.

Having grown up in a family with a sibling who suffered massive and permanent brain damage, I understand the anguish of Terri Schiavo's parents. However, she is an adult and she entered into a marriage covenant with her husband -- a covenant that does not include her parents or the U.S. government.
Santorum should cease his interference in what is a private matter among husband, wife, their physician and their God.
