I believe the removal of Terri Schiavo's feeding tube was the wrong decision by a Florida judge. Her parents
chose to give her life and their requests to keep her alive have been ignored. She will die unless the tube is reinserted.
What is worth ignoring are the pro-life remarks made by the GOP, including Rick Santorum and George Bush, regarding the Schiavo
case.
Where was Mr. Santorum last December when Pennsylvania wanted to execute George Banks? Banks is mentally
incompetent and his execution would have been a direct violation of his Eighth Amendment right.
Mr. Santorum remained voiceless because he supports the death penalty and could care less if it is right
or wrong. This occurs because his belief is more important to him than being rational.
He has no real interest in Terri Schiavo except to use her to promote his pro-life stance.
If he really has pro-life views he would have been active in opposing the Banks execution and preserving
the Constitution.
I am also amused by George Bush's remarks. He said human life should prevail in the Schiavo case. Where
was his regard for human life when he approved the execution of 249 people while governor of Texas? Multitudes of innocent
people have been executed in this country, including Texas.
These pro-lifers, including Mr. Bush and Mr. Santorum, are using Terri Schiavo as their political pawn to
appear self-righteous and yet they ignore the problem of the innocent and mentally ill being executed.
They make me proud to be pro-choice.
