Seventy-two Pennsylvania religious leaders have petitioned U.S. Sens. Arlen Specter and Rick Santorum to
vote against the "immoral federal budget" proposed by the Bush administration.
In a letter sent Wednesday, an interfaith lineup, including the local Episcopal, United Methodist, Presbyterian
and Quaker heads, called on the two senators to reject proposed tax cuts in the austerity budget, "freeing up funds for important
public services" such as Medicaid, food stamps, and student loans.
A delegation from the American Friends Service Committee, which initiated the petition, and the Pennsylvania
Council of Churches also met with aides for the senators to press their case. Concerns about the effect on cities and the
