Sandals Will Deliver Substantive Speech About His Decision and Social Security Reform on Tuesday April 19,
2005 at 5:15 PM in Philadelphia
Alan M. Sandals, who is one of the nation's leading attorneys and advocates for working and retired people
in the field of pensions and medical benefits, on Tuesday, April 19, 2005 at 5:15 PM at the Independence Visitor Center, 6th
and Market Streets in Philadelphia, will announce the formation of a committee to explore his candidacy for the Democratic
nomination for next year's U.S. Senate race in Pennsylvania.
His announcement will include an address explaining the reasons for his decision to form the committee and
the challenges that face all Americans at this moment in our history. Sandals will also offer a specific discussion
of Social Security reform and retirement security. Regarding the current White House proposal to privatize Social Security
for younger workers, he will identify and explain previously undisclosed, severe problems with this proposal based on economic
studies of long-term pension finance.
The speech will also briefly highlight Sandals' positions on sustaining our economic base as a matter of
national security in the face of globalization, the environmental crisis, tax equity, the spiraling costs of healthcare, and
protection of choice for women. He will detail these positions in other events around Pennsylvania in the coming weeks.
Sandals, age 51, is a long-time resident of Philadelphia and the father of two college-age children.
He is exploring a candidacy because of his concern and growing alarm that our usual political cycle, infected with distracting
'wedge issues,' is not serving us well and is poorly preparing the nation for our future.
Additional information about the committee and Alan Sandals, including biographical information, will be
available on the committee's website, ForOurFuture.US.
An advance text of the speech by Alan Sandals (which will be subject to a news embargo until delivered)
will be available at Noon, Tuesday, April 19.
