Here is how Philadelphia-area members of Congress were recorded on major roll-call votes last week...
War funding. Senators voted 99-0 to provide $77 billion this fiscal year for military actions
in Iraq and Afghanistan (HR 1268). This vote raises total war and reconstruction appropriations to at least $212 billion for
Iraq and $65 billion for Afghanistan since actions began. The bill now goes to conference with the House.
All Philadelphia-area senators voted for the bill.
Humvee armor. Senators voted, 61-39, to add $213 million in HR 1268 (above) for increased
production of fully armored Humvees. Backers cited complaints from troops of using scrap iron for armor in Iraq.
All Philadelphia-area senators voted in favor of adding funds for armored Humvees.
Guest workers. Senators failed, 53-45, to reach the 60 votes needed to amend HR 1268 (above)
by adding a broad new program for guest workers, including amnesty for some illegal immigrants.
A yes vote backed the proposed new program.
Voting yes: Joseph Biden (D., Del.), Thomas Carper (D., Del.), Jon Corzine (D., N.J.), Frank Lautenberg (D.,
N.J.), and Arlen Specter (R., Pa.).
Voting no: Rick Santorum (R., Pa.).
