Flawed AIDS fight

Letter to the editor,  Dec 5, 2004

Re: "We must lead way in global fight against AIDS " (Commentary, Nov 28):

Sen. Rick Santorum wants President Bush to get credit for leading the fight against AIDS, but while he's long on global AIDS statistics (42 million people are living with HIV/AIDS, reduced life expectancy in southern Africa, etc.), he's short on meaningful solutions such as free condoms, ... and comprehensive sex education, rather than the Bush administration's abstinence-only programs.  Santorum says we "cannot afford to stand silent," but for programs that work against this deadly crisis, he has nothing to say.
