On Saturday, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported a legitimate news story - that the chief of staff and communications director for rabidly homophobic Sen.
Rick Santorum is gay. But the widely read website PoliticsPA is urging people to call the reporter and tell him it wasn't a legitimate story. (Huh?)
[From PoliticsPA website:
The least classy move of this weekend is the Philadelphia Inquirer's Steve Goldstein, who authored an article about
the outing of a homosexual Santorum staffer. While many in the the Pennsylvania political community have known about
this high profile and talented staffer and respected his privacy for years, Goldstein thought it newsworthy. PoliticsPA
readers can reach Goldstein at 202-383-6048.]
We've
seen how right-wingers have cowed the media into backing off from legitimate stories and questions, time and time again. So
we need to make our voices heard, especially if you live in Philadelphia or Southeastern PA.
It's simple and free
-- all you need to do is e-mail a short letter to the editor to the Inquirer. The e-mail address is Inquirer.Letters@phillynews.com. They ask letter-writers to observe a 200-word limit and the writer's name, home address, and a daytime telephone number
must be included for verification purposes. They don't publish street addresses for letter writers, just hometowns.
But if you don't want them to publish your e-mail address, mention that in your message.
The article doesn't mention
that Santorum has voted against banning anti-gay job discrimination -- especially relevant to this situation.
