Since 1792, the United States Mint has been the federal agency responsible for the production and distribution of our Nation’s coinage. Since then, the United States Mint has accumulated a vast wealth of historical documents and artifacts, making us the custodians of our own history. This history is of immeasurable value, teaching us about our past and helping guide us for the future.

Today, the United States Mint website strives to preserve our heritage by sharing pieces of our history through a body of primary source material from which the public can find new insight on the relationships among numismatics, art, design, and government—from the birth of our Nation’s coinage to the present day.
