Zack's Top 10 Lures for Redfish and Trout Exclusively Selected for Texas's Bay and Surf |
||||
From Galveston to South Padre Island if your are planning a trip to the coast but unsure what lures produce good results, well. I have done all the research for you! For years I have read fishing forums and found that many new Texas coastal fishermen are at a loss as to what to use for a lure. Many new ocean anglers do not want to spend their vacation time on a trial and error lure basis, they are looking for a Go-To No Nonsense lure that will produce fish. So I made a list of the most highly recommended and successful inshore lures a person could own! 1. MirrOlure MR52 - TX Chicken # 52M704 2. Rapala Skitter Walk - Bone or Pink 3. Heddon Super Spook - Red head with white body 4. Assassins - Pumpkinseed/Chartreuse tail or Full Chartreuse 5. MirrOlure Catch 2000 - Purple Demon 6. Norton Sand Eel - Tequila Gold or Mardis Gras 7. Gold Spoon - 1/4oz or 1/2oz 8. MirrOlure Catch 5 - Chartreuse 9. Berkley Gulp Saltwater Shrimp - 3", Nuclear Chicken, White, New Penny, 1/16 Jig Head 10. MirrOlure She Dog - Bone, Chartreuse, Black and Silver *Bonus! Strike King Redfish Magic - 1/4oz or 1/8oz in white Now, I am not saying you are going to catch an IGFA record redfish or reel in a 15 pound trout on the 3rd cast but by using these 10 particular lures you definitely stand a greater chance of success. Which 3 would I choose out of the list? #1, #2, and #7. **Fishing these lures is quite simple. On any particular day I will throw these lures into the 2nd and 3rd cut and fish up or down current. High tide produces the best results as does utilizing prime fishing times from 30 minutes before dawn and 30 minutes after dusk. Now the bay is a WHOLE different animal and it is best to get reliable fishing reports before you wet your feet. ***If you plan to also fish with popping corks in the bay I suggest the Texas Rattlin' Rig, Cajun Thunder 2.5", and a homemade H&H cork setup using #20-30 fluorocarbon leader. Here is the website I buy all my corks from http://www.satackle.com/. Use live or DOA shrimp. |
Skitter Walk
Catch 2000
Super Spook
Berkley Gulp Shrimp |
This list was compiled from 20 years of personal experience, locals, bay guides, fishing reports, forums, tackle shops, and polls.
