Acupuncture
Defined
Acupuncture is a 4000 year old Chinese method of treatment that centers on the
concept of Qi (pronounced "chee"). Qi is an energy force that
flows through the body nourishing tissues and keeping the systems of the body in
balance.
Optimal health is achieved through the perfection of uninterrupted flow of Qi.
When we experience disease, emotional trauma, mental stress, physical inkury, or
have poor eating or sleeping patterns, it creates an imbalance in the flow of Qi
in the body.
By stimulating points on the body, Acupuncture restores the natural flow of
Qi to help the body restore itself to a healthy state. It is also used to
prevent the development of illness.
Unlike much Western medicine, the process of Acupuncture is partially
dependent on the patient's involvement. At times, a patient's actions can
help accelerate the healing process. For example, diet modification,
exercise and the development of the skill to "listen to your body"
will speed a patient's advancement toward optimal health.
