Evaluating Hearing Aid Performance in the "Real World"

Dr. Arlene Neuman, Research Professor at NYU School of Medicine, will discuss new methods for hearing aid fitting and for assessing "real world" outcomes.  Many hearing aids are designed to change how signals are processed based on the environment used by the aid.  In order to know whether these hearing aids are helpful, we need to know the needs of the person using the hearing aid, their listening environment and listening preferences.

Dr. Neuman has been active in hearing aid research for more than 20 years.  She is a Research Professor at NYU School of Medicine, Co-Director of the Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center on Hearing Enhancement at Gallaudet University, and is Editor-in-Chief of Trends in Amplification. She was a member of the team that developed and evaluated the first digital master hearing aid. She has published extensively on methods of evaluating hearing aid performance and on how different methods of amplification affect sound quality.
