Food Pantry

October 2010

Lime Rock was picked as one of the food pantries to participate in the RI Meals 4 Kids program during the month of September.  The food bank delivered to us  5 Pallets of Boxes to be given out to families with children.  The boxes included a variety of foods & drinks geared to providing the children with healthy meals.

We continue to serve 90 to 140 families a week and we are very fortunate to have a great group of volunteers. We would like to say a special thank you to our newest volunteer Stephen Cranshaw.  Stephen made us some great signs in three languages which have made the lines run much smoother. He also made us some sign up sheets which are a great improvement over our old way of using a pad. He has only been a volunteer for a few short weeks but he has made my job a lot easier.

Thank you again Steve for your help.

Would like to thank the following for their very generous donations of food:

The Sayles Memorial Church, the Wesley United Methodist Church and the Lincoln Housing Authority.

We would also like to thank Paul Bateson for the great gate he installed and getting crushed stone down on the road behind the church.

The Food Pantry has a new look.  We have gone “Free Choice”.  This is the way the Food Bank recommends the food pantries to be run.   Instead of making up bags the items are set out on several tables and the clients take a bag and choose a limited number of items from each table. This system is working very well both for the workers and the clients. To run the operation smoothly we need six or seven people each Saturday.

Our new hours are 9:00 to 11: 00 am.  We have been averaging between 90 & 100 families.  If you would like to donate a few Saturdays it would be greatly appreciated.  All you have to do is stand behind a table and say “pick one from this food group and two from this food group.”

You are always hearing us talk about the food pantry and we would like to show you how big the food pantry has grown.

These pictures show just a portion of the pantry and only a portion of our workers.

We usually set up four tables on each side of the poles.

These tables are packed when we open the cases of food.

Sometimes we have frozen food items and we always carry toilet paper, soap etc.

These pictures were among pictures taken for a presentation we gave at the RI Food Bank to show the advantage of the “Free Choice System”.

We are looking for a few volunteers to help us on Friday mornings- 9:30 to 11:30 AM to help move food from the Food Bank to the church.

Please contact Bob Potts- Tel: 333-1906 for more info if you would like to help.

Thank you.

We would like to thank the following:

The Lincoln Lions (a service organization) who recently held a fund raiser earmarked to “Feed the Hungry” and to this end, checks for $150.00 each were awarded to the Sayles Memorial Social Concerns Committee and to the Lime Rock Baptist Church Food Pantry for their efforts to feed the hungry.

The Wakefern Food Corporation which owns the Local Price Right market for selecting LRBC Food Pantry to receive a “2010 Wakefern Corporation Shared Maintenance Grant!”.

We will receive funding throughout this year totaling $438.00 and the RI Food Bank will receive the check and will credit our account.
