The Muse Project Lyrics

"You Will Go"

You will go where we tell you to go,
West of the River Mississippi.
We have the right to remove you from your land
in exchange for another.

We can extinguish your claim to land
owned by the United States.
Yet, we assure you and your heirs
a secure guarantee in your new home.

If you’ve made improvements to your land,
we shall appraise its value.
And pay the person making the claim
though possession shall pass to the United States.

When the exchange is made in full,
we will give you aid and assistance
toward your support and subsistence
for the first year after your removal.

We will protect you on your new land
from any other nation of Indians.
We will protect you on your new land
from any other persons whatever.

When you’re settled in your new home,
we have the same supervision.
You will go where we tell you to go
West of the River Mississippi.
