The Muse Project - September 2007 News

Dear Friends of The Muse Project,

The fall of '07 finds The Muse Project expanding on all fronts.

In August, we had a series of meetings with key staff members from the Penn Literacy Network. At these meetings, we discussed the parameters of our relationship.

PLN will invest their time and expertise on curriculum development for The Muse Project. They will be holding their first workshop on October 27 at The University of Pennsylvania with four or five of their key facilitators.

The purpose of this workshop will be to develop lesson plans for test piloting three pieces of recorded music; Chief Seattle, The Declaration of Independence, You Will Go (based on the Indian Removal Bill of 1830). PLN will develop a guide book, which along with a CD of each piece of music will be used directly in the classroom, be it a social studies, American History, English, etc. This will form the basis of a new seminar called PLN/MUSE, to be taught at regional seminars next summer.

On August 28, a choir consisting of nine professionals and three students (from Sage Hill School) recorded the music to The Declaration of Independence and You Will Go. Thanks to many of you, we raised $2,700 of the $3,700 required to record and mix these pieces. To have received this kind of support was an extraordinary accomplishment. I am immensely grateful for your confidence in the project.

With the recording of these two pieces, along with a prior recording of Chief Seattle, the staff of PLN will be able to move forward with their development work.

I've attached a few photos from the recording session held at Tom Zink Studios, Long Beach, CA, Megan Eddy conducting, Laurel Connor accompanying.

Sage Hill School will also begin their work with The Muse Project. They are in the process of determining which material they will use in their classroom as well as in their choral program.

We also have expanded our advisory board to include Dr. Penny Bryan, Professor at Chapman University, Dr. Michele McCormick, psychologist, and Megan Eddy, choral instructor at Sage Hill School. With their individual expertise, each of them brings much to our table. We are thrilled they are joining The Muse Project.

On a slightly less upbeat note, the IRS has informed us we will not learn about our non profit status until December or January. In the meantime, we are making plans to expand our board of directors, and perhaps, temporarily align with another non profit for fund raising purposes.

To see and hear more, go to themuseproject.org. We have video clips from the salon in June, along with some fabulous press we received last month.

Thanks again to all of you for your continued support.

As ever,

Lynda
