Profile of Kent Peterson
I have always been fascinated by long distance endurance riding. I came across Ken's site several years ago and always checked back to read his ride reports. I decided to email him following an excellent post recently on the BOB list. Remembering that he Randoneured and wondering if he had ever rode fixie on any of these adventures. I could hardly imagine heading out and churning out tons of km on a fixie. Well, that is exactly what Kent did on some LONG brevets.
Kent is a member of the Seattle International Randonneurs. I know Kent through the I-BOB list. He always shares his knowledge and experience with those of use who can use all the help in the world. Always glad to share a Ride story, He maintains a website which chronicles his adventures in Randonneuring and Brevets.
Recently I asked Ken if he had ever accomplished any of these Brevets with a fixie. He responded,
"Pretty much all the stuff from 2000 and 2002 was done on a fixie. I've done the Rocky Mountain 1200 twice on fixers and my 2002 tour back to Minnesota was on a fixed. These days, I'm single speeding but I'll probably swap back to fixed at some point. I've got one of those cool White industries ENO hubs on the Blueridge now with a 16 tooth freewheel on one side and a 16 tooth fixed cog on the other (39 tooth chainring). Keep 'em rolling, "

Kent's ride reports are quite impressive, as are the photographs and scenery that accompany them. I have attached below a list of his 2000 and 2002 Brevets that link to his stories. Enjoy!!
