I decided to utilize Weight Watchers after seeing the Jean Nidetch Biography on the A&E channel.
I was also tired of eating poorly, not planning family meals better and consistently gaining weight year after year.
WW emphasizes what you CAN eat, and not on restrictions to eating. This, along with peer support, a balanced approach, and "budgeting" your food intake greatly appealed to me.
I achieved Lifetime Member Status on July 30, 2003, only 22 weeks after joining the program. My goal of losing 30 pounds in 1 year was exceeded through discipline, encouragement and a sensible approach to eating.
WW is truly a remarkable program. It fits all eating and personality types. If you stick with the program, you will find creative ways to eat healthier food without feeling deprived. You can eat whatever you want, you just make healthier choices with how you eat it.
I now have a healthy relationship with food and have learned a lifestyle change, not a DIET!!
Harvey Diamond, in his book series, "Fit for Life", talks about a revolutionary approach to nutrition. He recommends a new way of eating that detoxifies the body and promotes healing and long-term health. The revolution: Eat your fruits and vegetables!!!
God knew what he was doing when He gave Adam and Eve the Garden of Eden! I'm not going to tell you that we should all be vegetarians, but I believe that fruits and veggies were designed by God specifically for human consumption. Think about it, Adam and Eve didn't start to eat meat until the first animal was sacrificed to make their first coverings.
Still not convinced? Read Harvey's book. This guy takes 20 years of medical and nutritional study to scientifically determine what God knew all along! (Back to Top)
Daniel's Challenge
The Bible has a very interesting story about healthful eating. Daniel, an Israelite taken into Babylonian captivity, was given a new identity and learned the culture and ways of Babylonian life. Daniel wanted to continue worshipping his God, and that included what he was to eat. He issued a challenge to the guards holding him captive:
Please test your servants for ten days: Give us nothing but vegetables to eat and water to drink. Then compare our appearance with that of the young men who eat the royal food, and treat your servants in accordance with what you see."
- Daniel 1:13-14 NIV
Daniel and his friends ate vegetables and water and avoided the rich foods of the palace. They were healthier and fitter than the king's servants. Also, they excelled as scholars and servants to the king. Read the whole account here!
