On August 17, 2000 at 6:20 in the evening, Junior passed away. We believe that he had had a siezure or stroke during the day. When I got home Junior was sleeping in a different room of his habitat. When I woke him to see if he was ok, he was wobbly and out of it. We got him out of the cage and wrapped him in a warm washcloth. He died soon afterwards as we were saying good by. He was loved.

Hi! My name is Junior and I'm a Syrian Hamster! My people have theirown page and Finally I get my own. I've been surfing the Web whenthey haven't been looking. There are all sorts of hamsters outthere with their own webpages! Me too!

I am my hamster parents'fourth hamster. They had Nutmeg, Cocoa, and Ginger before me.They would have named me after a spice but I was soo much likeDave they named me Junior instead.

I live in a big tank with awheel and a hidey block with ramps and my food bowl and my waterbottle and a paper tube. They let my out to run in my ball but Iwould rather run around without it. I can't see too well in it. Ikeep bonking into things, but that's kinda fun. Actually, I have a new ball now and I can see really well now! I like the newapartment because I can get into every single room. I like thebathroom the best. It's dark in there. But the soda bottles inthe kitchen are fun too. I like it when Dave takes me outside inmy ball. I follow his boots all over. 'Cept when there's a hill.

My new hobby is practicing my Houdini tricks. The first time I got out of my home was when my parents did not reassemble my habitrail correctly. The tubes came apart and I got to run around the apartment for a couple of hours. By was that fun! Must do that again! So I did. Part of my habitrail is this thing called a Burrow-View. It has a door at either end. One day (night time for humans) I popped one of the doors out and went looking for mommy. Boy was she surprised to wake up to me making noise next to the bed. She turned on the light, picked my up and handed me to a sleepy hamster daddy and I think she said "He's YOUR hamster!" Daddy put me back and put the door back on. I thought that that was fun so I popped the door off again. Unfortunately, Daddy caught me before I could get very far. He duct-taped the door on. Next I climbed up the side of my glass aquarium to the top and hand-over-handed to the clear plastic door. I figured out how to open it and climb out. I did it twice before the parents caught on. Now they keep something heavy on top of it.

carrots

Tips for Getting Along with Hamsters Like Me:

Wash your hands first. If you smell like food, we treat you like food (chomp!).
Please don't startle us.
We're allergic to cedar and pine shavings. Cedar in paticular.
Chewing is a natural habit.
Don't put us in the bedroom with you. We're noisy.
A quiet wheel is beneficial. (Mom made me put that in. Squeaky wheels are fun!)
As a general rule,hamsters are solitary animals by choice although many do get along together quite well.
I am Houdini reincarnated! (there is so much scotch, masking, and duct tape on my home)
If you put a colored wood block in my cage, my face will turn colors too.
