November 30, 2002 (L4-3)

We started extremely short. The opponent loaned us many players to make it competitive. The opponent took a 1-0 lead into the half. It started to rain and become heavy in the second half with the wind pelting us in the face with freezing rain. The field became very slippery. The opponent went up 2-0 early in the second half, however, we did not give up. Dean got us to within one with a follow-up of a shot taken by one of the guest players. Frank tied the match 2-2 with a blistering free kick from a about 30 yards that knuckled into the upper right corner. The opponent took the lead 3-2 a few minutes later. Ice almost tied the game on a free kick from about the same spot Frank took his, but it just missed the upper corner. Mike J. tied the match 3-3 with long lob shot from the right sideline. The opponent took the lead for good with about five minutes left in the match.

November 23, 2002 (W3-1)

The game was much closer than the score indicates. We started short and the opponent loaned us a player. Totan scored the first goal of the match early in the first half when his corner kick deflected off the goalie and into the net. The opponent kept pressure on our defense but we held on to the lead well into the second half. About midway through the second half, Korey scored on a corner taken by the player the opponent had loaned us. Buzz owned the box in the second half making several one-on-one and diving saves. The opponent finally got a goal  late in the second half. A few minutes later, the opponent had a chance to tie it up on a penalty kick, but Buzz winked at the opponent as he took the kick and the ball hit the crossbar. We were awarded a penalty kick with less than a minute to go when Korey was taken down in the box. Korey put the kick away and recorded his second goal of the match. The final whistle blew just seconds after the ensuing kick-off.

November 9, 2002 (T3-3)

Mike J. assisted Bryan on two break away goals. Frank scored a goal on a follow-up of a shot by Bryan. Mo made a great save during the match. Unfortunately, the opponent was still able tie the game with three goals of their own.

November 2, 2002 (W2-0)

Mike J. returned from a severe ankle sprain suffered September 14th and gave the assist to Bryan for the first goal of the match. We took the 1-0 lead into halftime. Buzz came out of the box in the second half to take away a couple of break away chances from  the opponent. The defense played aggressively and Buzz recorded the shutout. The midfield controlled the ball well and fed the forwards who had many chances. Ice, who just missed a couple low hard shots to the left earlier in the second half, finished off the opponent with a 30 yard shot that simultaneously hit the left post and crossbar before dropping in the goal.

October 26, 2002 (T1-1)

We started short and the opponent gave us a couple of players until we got up to full strength. Mike F. scored the first goal off an assist from Izzy to give us a 1-0 half time lead. Izzy went out early in the second half with a injured hamstring and one of the opponent players came back in to keep us at 11. The opponent began putting pressure on our defense. Mo made a couple of crucial diving saves in the second half. Buzz stayed on the post and made a kick save off the line on a dangerous corner kick. The opponent tied the game about midway through the second half. It was back and forth the rest of the game. Buzz went out late in the second half with a pulled hamstring. Even though we were one player down the last 10 minutes, the defense held on for the tie.

October 19, 2002 (W4-2)

The opponent was short so we loaned them a couple of players. Bryan scored first on a a nice run up the left side. The opponent tied it up on a well placed shot late in the first half. In the second half, Buzz misplayed the clear and it cost a goal. We were down 2-1 midway through the second half and then Bryan took over. He scored on another run from the left side to tie it up 2-2. He earned his hat trick on an assist from Mo. Frank scored an insurance goal on a header off a chip from Totan to make it 4-2. The defense, anchored by Dave and Gary up the middle, played well allowing no goal kicks or corner kicks in the second half.

October 5, 2002 (W1-0)

Frank scored what proved to be the game winner early in the first half off the assist from Izzy. Mo and Buzz combined for the first shutout of the Fall 2002 season. Pete was called back to play sweeper and was superb. Steve and Vince were forcing everything back to the inside and Pete took care of anything that got through up the middle. The midfield and forwards played well. The number of chances we had were too numerous to count. Many shots were just over or wide of the goal. A couple even hit the crossbar. We started the game with eleven and the opponent had many subs. We found relief in the second half with late arrivals, Dave and Gary. Ice made a kick save off the line near the end of the match after failing to get a card earlier.

September 28, 2002 (W3-1)

Ice broke the ice with a 40 yard shot that sailed over the opposing keeper's outstretched arms and under the bar. A few minutes later, Bryan scored after he stole the ball from the defender and put it by the keeper to give us a 2-0 lead at the half. Ice earned a yellow card early in the second half making him the "all time leader in receiving cards". Later in the second half, Ice gave a long assist up the middle to Izzy who fired it into the back of the net to give us a 3-0 lead. Vince started the game in goal and did well, allowing no goals. He was relieved by Mo early in the first half. The defense had good support from the midfield and protected the lead well in the second half until the opponent got a late goal with only a few minutes to play.

September 21, 2002 (W7-1)

We started with 9 and added another a few minutes into the match. We played short the rest of the game. We fell behind 1-0 midway through the first half. However, we answered with three unanswered goals to take a 3-1 half time lead. Izzy had four goals, Mike F. had a goal and three assists, Rick had two goals, and Mo had an assist. The fifth goal, which demoralized the opponent, came on a long half volley from Buzz. Mike F. raced down the left side to catch up with the ball and touched it to Izzy, as the keeper came out, for the score, just nine seconds after the save by Buzz. Even though we played one down, we wore the opponent down.

September 14, 2002 (L1-0)

It was a pretty tough 50/50 game. We played down one man most of the first half, and half of the second half. Gary showed up to make it 11 vs 11. Pete M. and Alan played well. Powell, Mike J., Pete, and Mike F. had a handful of chances, but could not find the frame. Mike J. went down with a bad ankle sprain (stepped in a hole while sprinting across the field) with about 15  minutes left and we played down one the rest of the way. The opponent scored with about 5 minutes left to win the game.

September 7, 2002 (T3-3)

Mike J. started the season off with a hat trick. The opponent went up 1-0 midway through the first half. Late in the first half, Buzz sent a long clear that bounced on the hard field over the defender's head and Mike J. raced by and put the ball past the keeper to tie the game 1-1. Mike J. scored his second goal early in the second half off a through ball from Powell. We had some bad bounces in the second half that led to two goals by the opponent and we were down 3-2 late in the match. With the game in stoppage time, Mike J. placed a chip shot from an impossible angle over the keeper's outstretched arms and under the bar to tie the game 3-3. The hard field evened things out in the end.
