The
opponent was short so we loaned them a player to make it nine on nine.
It was 3-0 at halftime. The defense anchored by Gary with Dave G. and
Phil on the outside put good pressure on the ball and used good
ball control to get out of trouble. Buzz made a few key saves in
both halves and used the goal post effectively in the second half to
preserve the shutout. The hightlight of the match was in the second
half when Ice scored on the opponent's best player utilizing the old
NUTMEG play.

This
was the 400th Pretenders match. We were short a few players so the
opponent loaned us a few. Two of the loaned players teamed up on a
corner kick to give us a 1-0 lead. We went up 2-0 later in the first
half when Ice sent a beautiful long cross from the right sideline to
the far post where the same guy that scored the first goal easily put
it
away with a header. The opponent scored early in the second half to
make it 2-1. A few minutes later the opponent was awarded a free kick
just outside the box which they put right in the corner under the
crossbar to tie the match 2-2. Night began to fall and there was a full
moon but Buzz told the ref he could not see the ball very well and
complained the moon was not putting enough light on the field. A little
while later, Buzz made a blind save in the dark of night and complained
once again to the ref who called the match due to total darkness on the
field.

We
controled the ball in the midfield for most of the match. Ice was a
monster in the air, getting to every head ball in his vicinity. Good
defensive effort by Steve, Pat, Gary, Mo, and Phil. Totan scored on a
rebound off a shot by Mike J. to make it 1-0 at halftime. We went up
2-0 early in the second half when Mike J. put away a low corner by Mike
F. The opponent made it 2-1 a few minutes later. A couple of our guests
put the opponent away late in the match and made it a 3-1 final.

We
only had seven players so the opponent lent us three. Phil left at half
time. They went up quickly 2-0 then Pete scored off a cross from Mike
F. Halftime was 2-1. They went up 4-1 and then Mike F. scored on a
header from Pete. By then we were playing two men down the whole second
half. Mo played well in goal and kept us in the game.

We
started out playing 9 v 9, but after 5 minutes Herndon had 11. After
giving up 2 goals in the first half we got to full strength when Dave
G. and Roberto showed up. Dave got a early goal off a nice ball from
Frank, then Roberto got one from a pass from Dave. Brandon, playing in
his last match before moving Seattle, got the next 2 goals, the 1st off
a corner from Rick, and a rebound off a shot by Dave. Rick scored the
final goal off a pass from Man of the match Dave. Great come from
behind victory! Steve, Sly and Phil played well in the back.

The
match was played on a short pitch. We were up 3-2 at halftime. We
played with 10 the second half. We were up 6-2 with about 15 minutes to
play when the opponent was able to score twice in a short period.
Fatigue was beginning to set in but we were able to hold off the
opponent even though they had several subs.
