Game Summaries

August 28, 2004 (T1-1)

The fiinal match of the season was a real scorcher. Everyone played hard under intense heat as we had fewer subs than the opponent. Mike J. gave us the lead in the second half when his shot from an impossible angle from the left  side sailed over the outstreched arms of the opposing keeper and and curled into the far corner of the net. The opponent tied it up a few minutes later. Mercifully, the game finally ended and many liquids were consumed by all.

August 21, 2004 (W3-2)

A pregame shower let up and the game was on. We dominated the opponent in the midfield the entire match. Frank, Pete, Dave, and others were able to maintain possesion with good movement and short passes on the ground. Gary, Pat, Mo, and Jawad played stong defense. Buzz came out of the box a few times to take-away break-aways by the opponent. We had some chances to score in the first half but ended the half tied 0-0. Mo relieved Buzz in goal for the second half and made a couple one-on-one saves. The opponent drew first blood early in the second half on a well placed header. Dean tied the match a few minutes later when his cross, intended for Dave, found its way into the far corner of the net. We took the lead 2-1 when Dean followed up a blast from guest player, Pete W. The opponent was able to tie the match 2-2 on a break-away goal. With just minutes left in the match and the ball acting like a pin ball in a crowd in front of the goal, the ball found its way into the net. Jawad remarked that was the ugliest goal he had ever seen. Rick was the closest to the ball as it went in so he gets credit for the game winner.

August 14, 2004 (N/A)

Game canceled due to hurricane Charley.

August 7, 2004 (W5-2)

The opponent was short so we loaned them a few players. The players we loaned them scored both goals for the opponent. We controlled the entire match. Dave brought Pete W., a former High  School teammate of  Frank and Buzz. Pete W. had the highlight goal of the match. Frank sent a well place cross from the right side to the far post, where Rick headed the ball back to Pete W., who hit a first time volley with his left foot that found the back of the net. Earlier, Pete W. sent a through ball to Rick who scored the first goal of the match. Rick scored the third goal late in the first half to give us a 3-1 lead. RJ made a nice run in the second half down the right sideline and found Rob at the far post for the easy finish to make it 4-1. Ice sent a nice through ball to RJ late in the match who scored the final goal to seal the deal.

July 24, 2004 (W3-1)

Frank assisted Dean on the first two goals to give us a 2-0 cushion going into the second half. We played one man short the entire match. Pete used his speed and stamina to make up for shortage on defense. About midway through the second half, Dean assisted a guest player to give us a 3-0 lead. A few minutes later, the opponent was able score on a break-away for their only goal of the match.

July 17, 2004 (T2-2)

Vince suffers serious ankle injury early in the first half on hard foul. Buzz and Gary help Vince off the field. Vince drives himself to the Winchestser hostpital for X-rays and further treatment. The opponet took the lead 1-0 when we were two men down while Gary was helping Vince to his vehicle. Mike F. tied the match  1-1 on an assist from Totan. The opponent took the lead 2 -1 near the end of the first half.Gary returned to the field with a few minutes ramaining in the first half and we tied the match 2-2 on a header by Pete off a corner from Rick. The second half was canceled due to lightning from a thunderstorm approarching the field.

July 10, 2004 (T1-1)

It was a hard fought match. Gary, Dave, and Rick played excellent defense in the back. We took the lead 1-0 late in the first half on a goal by Mike J. with an assist from Ice. We had a few chances to extend the lead in the second half but came up short. The opponent was able to tie the match with only a few minutes left.

July 3, 2004 (N/A)

No game scheduled due to Fourth of July holiday weekend.

June 26, 2004 (W4-1)

Toatn had two goals on assists from Bryan and Frank. Bryan scored an unassisted goal off a corner kick. A guest player scored the fourth goal with an assist from RJ.

June 19, 2004 (L2-1)

Rick scored the loan goal assisted by Korey. Some say it was a close match.

June 12, 2004 (W4-2)

The opponent loaned us a couple of players so we could start the match with eleven. Buzz arrived a few minutes late as he drove straight from his Uncle's funeral in West Virginia. We were down 1-0 when Buzz entered the game. Rick tied the match on a well placed shot over the opposing keeper. He was assisted by a player on loan. Dave arrived soon after, but offered no excuse. The players on loan returned to the opponent's bench. We were finally at full strength but had no subs and the opponent had five. The opponent took the lead a few minutes later to make it 2-1. Rob was taken down in the box a short time later and was awarded a PK which he promptly put away to tie the match 2-2. Rick fed Ice who blasted a low hard shot from 35 yards out that found its way through a crowd and into the net without touching a soul. This turned out to be the game winner as Buzz made a spectacular save near the end of the first half to preserve the 3-2 lead. In the second half, an opponent was elbowing  Dave in the back trying to nudge him out of the wall on a direct free kick. Dave took exception and slung the opponent to the ground like a rag doll. Unfortunately, the ref did not see the initial foul and Dave was ejected with a red card. The opponent started pressing more after we went a man down. Gary, Pat, Phil, and Jawad played great defense in the second half as we shutdown the opponent. Jawad made a nice run and left it for Mike F. who scored an insurance goal to make it 4-2 with just a few minutes left in the match.

June 5, 2004 (N/A)

Game canceled by opponent. Opponent could not field a team.

May 29, 2004 (W7-0)

This match turned into the Bryan and Dean Show. Bryan had three goals and two assists. Dean had two goals and two assists. Dave had one goal. Craig, a guest, scored one goal. Ice had two assists. Vince had one assist. Each team picked up one bystander and played full strength the first half which ended with us up 2-0. Both teams went one man down when the bystanders left at the half. Dave, Pat, and Vince played superb in the back and kept the pressure off Buzz. The flood gates opened up in the second half. We scored five goals in the first 30 minutes of the second half. Vince had to leave the match with a hamstring injury shortly after we went up 7-0. We were now one man down and the opponent started controlling the ball more and putting pressure on the defense. Buzz took control of his box and made several spectacular saves to preserve the shutout.

May 22, 2004 (L2-1)

The opponent took an early 1-0 lead in the first half. Totan tied the match a few minutes later after he stole the ball from the defender. It was back and forth the second half until Buzz misplayed a backpass late in the  match and handed the opponent victory.

May 15, 2004 (L3-2)

The opponent scored 2 quick goals. We played without a keeper. Vince played the first half. We tied it 2-2 before halftime. Rob had a goal assisted by Totan and Mark J. had a goal assisted by his brother Mike J. The opponent took the lead 3-2 in middle of  second half and held on. Pete made several nice saves as stand in keeper. Dave, Rick and Gary played well in the back.

May 8, 2004 (L3-0)

The opponent gave us a taste of what a shutout feels like. The last time we were shutout was September 14, 2002. The opponent deserves credit for a well played match. We were only down 1-0 late in the match but allowed two late goals.

May 1, 2004 (L4-2)

The score does not reflect the whole story. Although we lost, we were successful. We started the match with six players. The opponent had eight players. We successfully convinced the opponent to loan us a player. That made the match a friendly one. The match was not canceled. The ref actually stayed and worked the match. Buzz successfully made some spectacular one-on-one saves in the first half. Dave successfully sent Gary a nice low cross from the left and Gary successfully put it in the net to give us the 1-0 lead. Gary suffered a calf injury and tried to play through it. Buzz noticed Gary limping and unable to run. He instructed Gary to leave the match and made it clear that furthering his injury was not worth it in what amounted to a scrimmage. We were now down to six players. The opponent was able to get a break-away goal to tie the match 1-1 late in the first half. Gary showed his guts by offering to return and play keeper in the second half. He did a good job in goal but the defense was showing signs of exhaustion. The opponent took the lead 2-1 midway in the second half. The opponent was called for a hand ball in the box a few minutes later. Dave successfully put the PK in the left side of the net to tie the match 2-2. We had some opportunities to score but missed some chances. We successfully used the offside trap a half dozen or so times. Unfortunately, we literally ran out of steam as the opponent scored on two break-away goals in the last five minutes.

April 24, 2004 (W2-0)

Buzz gets second straight shutout. The real story was the defense. Rick was in at sweeper in the first half. He did a superb job while directing the outside defenders Phil and Vince, both of whom played well the entire match. Both teams were one short to start the match. We had a late first half arrival that put us at full strength. Although we were tied 0-0 at the half, the extra man gave us an advantage in the second half. Dave dropped back into the sweeper position in the second half and played like a young man as he shutdown the speedy opposing forward the rest of the match. Frank provided the game winner, halfway through the second half, with an unassisted cross from the right side that was muffed by the opposing keeper before ending up in the goal. Ice put the "ICIng" on the cake a few minutes later as he put one of his patented blasts in to the right corner of the net from about 30 yards out.

April 17, 2004 (W2-0)

Buzz records first shutout of the season. The defense, anchored by Dave, played solid. Pat and Phil played aggressively and thwarted many advances by the opponent. Rick came back in the second half to help preserve the shutout. Frank controlled the midfield the entire match and was constantly moving into open space to give the defense outlets. The opposing keeper made a half dozen or so saves on close in shots. However, we were able to score one goal in each half. The first goal came on a classic give-n-go. Rick played it to Ice, who coolly fed it to the left corner of the box, where Rick curled the shot to the far side of  the net. Pete made a run on the left and scored the second goal off a nice cross-field long ball from Mike F.

April 10, 2004 (T2-2)

Bryan had a goal and an assist. Rick had an assist. A guest tallied our second goal. We had the lead 2-1 with just minutes to play but the opponent tied the match with a late goal.

April 3, 2004 (N/A)

Game canceled due to poor field conditions.
