Warning Description: Special Weather Statement
Warning Date: 1:15 PM PDT on July 5, 2008
WarningSum:...Very Hot Temperatures Expected Next Week...
Warning Message:A strong ridge of high pressure developing over the central
Pacific Ocean will build east and strengthen next week. This will
likely bring very hot conditions to southwest California...with the
potential for near record high temperatures during the middle of next
week.
A warming trend should begin on Monday and persist into midweek.
Temperatures will climb near to or exceed 105 degrees in the
deserts on Monday...with coastal...valley...and mountain areas
warming as well. The marine layer will likely remain confined to
the beaches and coastal waters by Tuesday...with temperatures
soaring across inland areas. Temperatures on Tuesday will approach
or exceed 105 in the warmest valleys and foothills and up to
around 110 degrees in the Antelope Valley. At the coastal
sections...temperatures will generally range from the 70s at the
beaches...to around 90 inland...with foothill locations likely
approaching 100 degrees. Heat index values will likely exceed 100
degrees on Tuesday in the Valley...Mountain...and desert
locations.
By midweek...the warming trend should start to level off...with
temperatures remaining around tuesdays afternoon high
temperatures. Though the warming trend will level off...an
increase of monsoonal moisture from the southeast will likely keep
heat index values above 100 degrees on Wednesday in the
Valley...Mountain...and desert areas.
Hot and humid conditions will likely persist for late
week...despite an increase in cloud cover. Though afternoon high
temperatures will likely decrease...heat index values will likely
remain above 100 degrees for Thursday and increased moisture will
make the human body perceive it to be nearly as hot.
The increase in monsoonal moisture will bring a slight chance of
thunderstorms to the mountains and deserts from Wednesday through
Friday.
During the heat wave...persons are urged to never leave children
or animals in parked vehicles even with the windows
cracked...death will likely result. Continue to drink plenty of
fluids...stay out of the sunshine...and check up on relatives and
neighbors.
