The Legend of the Sand Dollar

There's a pretty little legend
That I would like to tell
Of the birth and death of Jesus
Found in this lowly shell,

If you examine closely,
You'll see that you find here
Four nail holes and a fifth one
Made by a Roman's spear.

On one side the Easter lily,
Its center is the start
That appeared unto the shepherds
And led them from afar.

The Christmas poinsettia
Etched on the other side
Reminds us of His birthday,
Our Happy Christmastide.

Now break the center open
And here you will release
The five white doves awaiting
To spread Good Will and Peace.

This simple little symbol,
Christ left for you and me
To help us spread His Gospel
Through all eternity.

National Breast Cancer Foundation Facts and Early Detection Plan:

Facts:

Every two minutes a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer.

This year more than 211,000 new cases of breast cancer are expected in the United States.  Breast cancer is the leading cause of death in women between the ages of 40 and 55.  1,600 men are expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer this year and 400 are predicted to die.

Mammography is a low-dose X-ray examination that can detect breast cancer up to two years before it is large enough to be felt.  When breast cancer is found early, the five-year survival rate is 96%.  This is good news!  Over 2 million breast cancer survivors are alive in American today.

Early Detection Plan:

Monthly breast self-examinations beginning at age 20.  Look for any changes in your breasts.

Clinical breast examinations every three years from ages 20-39, then every year thereafter.

Baseline mammogram by the age of 40.  Mammogram every one or two years for women 40-49, depending on previous findings.  Mammogram every year for women 50 and older.  A personal calendar to record your self-exams, mammograms, and doctor appointments.  A low-fat diet, regular exercise, and no smoking or drinking.
