Purpose/Goal: To take in clothes, given in love, and distribute them to any
area of need, locally and beyond, to both established organizations
and to individuals, in order to show the love of God to all people.
Current Operations: Currently "The Closet" works out of volunteer
garages and distributes boxes of sorted clothes to numerous established groups in
the local community or through a direct community outreach located at the Flipside.
- Clothes are received from donating churches,
businesses and others and transported to "The Closet."
- A team of volunteers and staff members then sort through the incoming
clothes and organize them into boxes by size, age and sex.
- Sorted clothes are then placed in either the "outgoing"
clothes section, which is donated in bulk to homeless or community based
organizations, or in the "local distribution" section,
where they are given to needy people throughout the local community.
- Local distribution is done monthly at the Closet Outreach located at the Flipside Offices.
The Outreach consists of a short worship and instructional time, with prayer,
and then the Closet store is opened to all who attend. Everyone is able to select
just what they need and the clothes are free.
"Freely have we received, freely shall we give."
Future Plans: Our hope is to expand this ministry to include
additional organizations in our distribution and eventually act as a hub for other
organizations to rely on for a steady flow of quality used clothes.
