At Gift we have a number of different programs which are currently running
and also a large number that we plan to start in the future. We currently have
four existing programs, which fall into three different need groups.
The first need group is the Community. We have developed a program focused on improving the
community through volunteer run activities, such as graffiti clean-up, trash
pick-up, weed pulling, tree trimming, etc. This program has been in existence for
about 4 years, and our long term plans for this program are to have one in every
community in the Inland Valley, and we do not intend to stop there!
The second group we have established is our Physical
Needs group. We have two programs developed towards reaching our goals in this
area. The first is the Closet, which is a program that takes in donated clothing and then sorts and
distributes it to organizations that work directly with people in many areas,
from Los Angeles to San Bernardino Counties. The long range plan for this program is to
eventually acquire a warehouse to store the clothes and act as home-base for all
transactions. We plan to donate to organizations all across the world, as much as
resources allow!
The second program is one that we have recently started. It is a direct outreach
of the Closet to the local community. Once a month we provide clothes directly to the local community
through the Closet Outreach, a store located at the Flipside Offices. All clothes are free to
those who attend. The Closet Outreach is held on the fourth Saturday of the month at 1:00pm.
The third and final
group we have developed is an Emotional and Spiritual Needs group. We have up and
running a program focused on caring for the needs of the senior citizen
population. We currently visit a Senior home called The Rudolph Hendrix
Apartments, where we have a bible study, make room visits to "shut-ins" and provide entertainment
when possible. We plan to expand this program to as many senior communities as
man-power will allow!
A second program we have to meet the spritual needs of the community
is the Closet Outreach mentioned above where
we have a short time of worship and instruction with prayer, prior to opening the Closet store.
