  3. Gastrointestinal Disorders:
Esophageal and cardia spasm, hiccup, gastroptosis, acute or chronic gastritis, stomachache, chronic duodenal ulcers, acute or chronic colonitis, acute bacillary dysentery, constipation, diarrhea, and paralytic ileus.

Q & A

How deep do needles go?
It depends on the nature of the problem, the underlying anatomy of the points selected, the patient's size and age.  In general, needles are inserted from 1/4 to 1 inch in depth.

Does it hurt badly?
The insertion of the needles goes unnoticed by some.  To others it feels like a mosquito bite followed by a senation of tingling, numbness, sour, traveling warmth or heaviness.  Needles remain in place for 20-30 minutes.  Usually the treatment results in relaxation and an elevation of spirit.   Some people notice a relief of symptom immediately or feel more energetic in the days after the treatment.  Most people find that acupuncture sessions are not uncomfotable and even look forward to the next treatment session.

Are the needles safe?
We use  pre-sterilized, individual packaged, disposable needles only to make it is absolutely assuring that there is no cross contamination.

How does acupuncture work?
Acupunture is based on the ancient Chinese theories of the flow of Qi (energy) and blood through discrete channels or meridians which travers the body similar but not identical to the nervous and blood circulatory systems.  Acupuncture regulates this flow of Qi shunting it to those areas where it is deficient and draining it from where it is excess.  Thus acupunture regulates and restores the harmonious energetic balance of the body.  Essentially, acupunture promotes and balances the flow of Qi and blood.

How long is the treatment?
It depends on the duration, severity, and the nature of each individual's complaint.  Generally,  five to fifteen treatments are adequate for a majority of chronic ailments.  Releasing pain is about two to twelve treatments.
