In KANGAROO CLUES, an illustrated picture book,
children learn about Dreamtime and Old Man Kanga and how he
beat dogs that were out to eat him. Readers will enjoy hearing
about and seeing colorfully drawn pictures of kangaroos, kookaburras,
platypus', frill-neck lizards, galas, koalas, and more. Mustafa
Delioglu, the illustrator, put a lot of thought and particulars
into each creature drawn. Each design adds charm and enchantment
to the story.
Told in rhyme, this storybook is a new favorite
in this reviewer's household. With Australian parentage, my
children and I, thoroughly enjoyed Margot Finke's wondrous tale
about Australia's outback and the animals that live there.
This book would work wonderfully in the classroom.
Teachers could add this detailed and fun book to their lesson
plans when teaching children about the world's countries. This
reviewer highly recommends KANGAROO CLUES by Margot Finke.

My two kids loved Kangaroo Clues. The rhyme
is neat, and the story really interested them. The illustrations
were very cool - the artist made the Australian animals and
birds a lot of fun. Great colors.
I am going to get Margot Finke's other picture
book as well. Her rhymes are a great way of making the Australian
animals seem real and fun.
My kids play Kangaroo Clues a lot. Hope the
CD doesn't wear out.

and brilliant illustrations by Aysin Eroglu. As you virtually
turn each page, you will learn more about these animals from
their habitat to legends about them.
The book also has a list of some of the unusual
Australian words used in the book. It gives a brief explanation

I've lived in Australia, and the
animals in Margot Finke's "Never Say BOO to a Frilly"
really jump out at you. The rhyme is smooth and easy to read,
and the illustrations are fun. My son thinks this book is cool.
He knows how to click the book on and read rhymes about a frill-neck
lizard, wild parrots and the Tasmanian Devil.
This is a fun way for kids like my son to learn
about Australian animals and birds. This e-book is great. I
guess that's the teacher in me!

Mama Grizzly knows exactly what to teach her
inquisitive cubs, and Margot Finke knows exactly how to show
us.
Readers young and old will enjoy following Mama
Grizzly through a year of her life. In rhyming verse and lifelike
illustrations, we see Mama snug in her cave nursing her cubs.
When theyre old enough, she guides them to find the food
they will need to survive, like berries, honey and fish. And
when winter blows cold and snowy, a long nap is in order. A
gentle nudge reminds us that man has encroached on nature and
is her only threat.

Children's Writer Margot Finke Has Two New E-Picture Books Available!
Good news!
When I first reviewed an e-picture book I was enchanted with the
magical way the flipviewer turns the pages. I have to admit, I
still think this is pretty special and does give a magical quality
to these delightful little books.
Now, children and adults alike will love Margot
Finke's medley of whimsical Aussie Bush Rhymes in her new e-picture
book called Don't Eat Playtypus Stew.
Through Finke's engaging rhymes and Holdsworth's
charming illustrations, children all over the world can learn
about the platypus, the koala bear, and the kookaburra - animals
all found in Finke's native Australia.
But readers probably won't even realize they're
learning new information because the text and illustrations
are such fun.
Finke even includes a glossary of "Aussie
Words" in the back of the book, which is good because no
doubt many readers will have no idea what she is talking about
when she mentions some of these unfamiliar terms. (see her review
of Prairie Dog's Play Day Below)

*Check Matthew's
other reviews. He is a young teen who loves to read.
This book is about bush rhymes. I loved the
illustrations by Rebecca M. Holdsworth.
The first part Dont Eat Platypus
Stew had a lot of good information about platypuss.
Also it
tells you about what they look like. I do agree with Margot
they do have a ridiculous name.
The second section of the book is called Koala
Capers. Once again I loved Rebeccas
illustrations. It had a lot of good information about what koalas
like to eat. I think it is cool
how they drink water from a gum leaves entire tip.
The third section of the book is called Kooky
Kookaburra. I think it is funny how they laugh. I
think it is cool how they like wake up games. It is amazing
how their beak is ready for attack. I
think any kids interested in birds would really like Kooky Kookaburra
because it has a lot of
good illustrations and information about kookaburras.
I think this is a great book. I really enjoyed
all of the stories and learned a lot. Another reason its
a great book is there is a glossary of Aussie words in the back
with their meanings.

Children's Writer Margot Finke Has Two New E-Picture Books Available!
This second new e-picture book by Margot Finke
teaches children about animals that may be a bit more familiar
than the typical "Aussie animals" in her other new
book. Yet, it includes facts about each creature that will be
new information to most readers. Prairie dogs, Bald Eagles,
and skunks are all subjects for her charming rhymes in her ebook,
Prairie Dog's Playday. Detailed illustrations make the books
easy to follow.
Do you know what skunks eat for breakfast? Or,
how Bald Eagles take care of their young, or how prairie dogs
protect themselves from other animals? You will after reading
this cute book.
Story time truly takes on a magical feel with
these two new delightful e-picture books from Margot Finke.

A good picture book is a marriage
of words and pictures. This is a wonderful marriage.
There are three poems:
* The Nutty Squirrel talks about squirrels and
their habit in engaging rhymes.
"Acorns and nuts are what fat squirrels munch high up in
a warm cosy hollow" (You'll have to read the book to find
out what follows.)
*Kitty Kat is a paean to Cat Lovers. "But
know that they own you for all of your days because cats make
the rules of the game." Any cat lover and anyone owned
by a cat will enjoy this.
*Bumblebee Buzzers
gave me some facts about Bumble Bees that were new to me. Again
the word choices are ideal: "Plump, stripey body -- so
perfect for "bumbling"
And the pictures! They are an exquisite complement
to the text. Let me just say I would like a framed print of
every picture. The colors and detail are wonderful. I am a jigsaw
puzzle lover. I would also like them made into jigsaw puzzles.
They would be so much fun to do. This is a beautiful book.

Once again Margot has written a great rhyming
book. This one is about squirrels, kittens and
bumblebees. The seventh in her series, Margot truly has
a way with words. As you read her rhymes you learn about these
animals and understand why they do what they do.
Elizabeth's illustrations bring
the rhymes to life. Her use of color and design add that extra
dimension to each rhyming verse.
If you like your children to learn about the
animals around them, this book should be on your list of books
to buy. Go to Margot's
