Today was a good studio day. I replaced the scratch vocal and guitar with the real tracks. Jeff got a beautiful
sound for the acoustic guitar. These three songs are really coming together in a nice way. We heard a banjo part
in Draw Closer, so friend Glenn's son, Russ, will work on a part and we'll see how it works. Sometimes songs
work differently than what you expected. Draw Closer is becoming a joyful celebration of the Lord drawing near as we
ask Him to. Tender Love has a little bit more work to do. The native american cedar flute
gets added, maybe, on the next session. Returning is about done, too. Both of these last two have a very
pretty fretless bass parts, done by Mike Keefer.
One thing I learned is how difficult fingerstye guitar is to record. Everything in the room came up in the mics. The
guitar against my sweater and jeans, my breathing, and even the water dripping from the dehumidifier was very evident.
That called for being very still and not breathing much while recording. I had to pay attention, with mics that
hot, to not only playing the chords correctly and in time, but also how you get off a chord or slide from one to the
other. With every finger motion being picked up by the mics, you had to be play very cleanly. You can
really get away with alot of stuff live. In the studio you have to pay close attention to everything.
It is cool how though working this CD, I am aware of so much more musically. So even at this time,
I'm still learning music stuff. That is fun!
Well, my friends, I hope you enjoy the new studio roughs. They are up on the CD project page. Blessings
to you all!
