Purpose Driven Worship Ministry

This page is all about how we are walking through implementing a purpose driven worship ministry at our church.  I'd love to hear and exchange some ideas with others.  Hit me on email, if you have something that works at your church!

Worship (You were planned for God's pleasure)

As a worship team, we worship the Lord and lead others in doing so.  We (our worship team) needs not only to do this in a congregational setting but also by ourselves.  And worship doesn't end with music or whatever art we express ourselves with.  Worship is a 24 x 7 lifestyle that includes the expression of our love for God in music and other art forms.  It also might include folding clothes or doing the dishes or doing something for someone else that will never come to anyone's attention (but the Lord knows).  It might be being kind in an situation that others would not be.  Worship is doing and being this way because we love our Lord.  Worship causes us to long for the Presence of the Lord (The Holy Spirit) and for our Bridegroom, Jesus Christ, and for our Father.

Since we are a small church, at the moment, it offers us some flexibility that can't be done in larger settings.  For instance, we are thinking of setting up a small carpet, pillows, and an altar table for our worship times.  But more than just a decoration in the front, we feel led to place this in the middle of the congregation.  I envision folks going there to kneel and pray, or just rest in His Presence.  Also, placing it in our midst makes a prophetic statement that we, by faith, know that He comes and rests in the midst of His people and even envelopes us with His Presence as we worship Him together.  I feel this is something the Lord enjoys and treasures.  There is more treasure of the Lord to discover in this.

Fellowship (You were formed for God's family)

In a very small church plant where everybody wears multiple hats, this one seems hard to get going.  Today, everyone is so busy with family and kids.  As a worship pastor, I certainly don't want to take away the only free night of the week.  That would be a source for burnout.  But we need to work rehearsal and fellowship time into the team's schedule.  We need to deepen our relationships with each other on the team.  This is one we need to work on at Life House.  It continues to be a bit elusive since we don't have a place to rehearse during the week.

Discipleship (You were created to become like Christ)

This one goes hand in hand with the above.  As a team, we need to spend time learning about the Lord, together.  We need to experience good teaching and times of deep worship, as a team.  As a team, we need to look for ways to encourage each other and ask the Lord to increase our passion for Him.

Minstry (You were shaped for service)

Our team is like other worship teams and everyone is dedicated and very self motivated.  I am very blessed to lead the team at Life House.  Even so, we all can have our fire turned up a notch more.  Let's pray for opportunities where we can bring worship outside the church walls.  Also, as a team, look for ways to help the other ministries in the church.  We should be willing to step off the platform when there is a need in other ministries.

Evangelism (You were made for a mission)

This is an area we need to ask for opportunities in.  How can we use the worship ministry, outside the walls of the church, to reach out to the unchurched and lost.
